I giving myself an ulcer!!!

Hi everyone,

I know this topic has been covered before but I'm a new grad been off oreintation for 4 weeks on a busy SDU floor... We do total care no CNA or ward clerks. My patient ratio is 3-4 and its really hard for me... I don't think I doing anything right and I go home thinking about it... I'm always doubling guessing myself and then I go home worrying about it.. I would give you an example but its always something new each shift I work... I just don't know if I should stick it out to get experience or find a new job... It will probaly be the same where ever I go....Thanks for listening....

You have only been off of orientation for 4 WEEKS. Cut yourself some slack. Please be patient with yourself, you are very new. I have been working for 1 year and floor nursing is a tough job...

Do you have good support on your floor? Know who your allies are? Do you go home and have good stress relievers? These are all very important. I have found this job to be quite taxing if you are not taking care of yourself.

4 weeks on your own is the very beginning. Be patient with yourself,

It certainly comes together with time. I'm not saying I have it all "together" by any means! I left my first job for a day position and sunk!

However, with my first job, I had lots of support, a good preceptor, and I felt comfortable there.

I am sure you know from experience everything is tough at first. If you made it through nursing school, passed your boards, guess what, You are a Nurse! Congratulations and just put one foot in front of the other!
