I can't get a job in California as an LVN

Nurses New Nurse

Published

I graduated from nursing school and have been actively looking for jobs in Orange County Ca. No luck... I am finding most places, including SNF, want experience. Does anybody know anywhere they are hiring new LVNs? I thought wanting to work the NOC shift would be easy to find work. So frustrating....

If you haven't already done so, go into several facilities in person and ask about possible job openings. While they may advertise "experience preferred", when there's a willing and able body right there in front of them, sometimes they may offer you a job on the spot.

If they still aren't hiring, ask if you can shadow a nurse for a few hours or at least get a tour of the facility/unit. They may or may not allow this but it shows positive interest on your part and it can give you an idea of the feel of the place and how much effort you may want to put into getting hired there.

Then, follow up every week or two at places that interest you. Let them know that you are still available and interested in working there. Someone may leave or they may get an increased budget and you want your name to be at the front of their minds.

Finally, ask for advice on how to get the experience desired. They may not have any useful advice (just shrug and say it's your problem) but if they DO have useful advice, you won't get it unless you ask, so it's worth asking.

It's a pain to have to try so hard to land a job, especially if all you've been hearing up til now is how easy it will for you get a job as a nurse. But patience and persistence should payoff in the long run. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your great tips. I read it aloud to my husband and he was nodding his head is agreement. I will try that. Thanks so much..
