how do I describe tracking or sinus??

Complete mental blank here! I want to describe an infected cyst on the neck/shoulder junction that has a red line coming away from it towards the head and another down on to the chest. My head wants to say that the infection is tracking - is that accurate? Or do I say there is a sinus that is tracking? I don't think I can say that because there is no outlet to a sinus so perhaps there isn't one?? My brain is all confused on this one.

if this is for an assignment then I would recommend researching your two different options. I think we would all love to help you out on this but as my instructor said......look it up.....hehe...GOOD LUCK TO YA!!!!!!!!!
