Hi, I'm a nursing student with a project due on phosphorous balance. I'd like some advice from Nurses in the field about phosphorous imbalances and patients. What is most common? How do you handle? What effect does this have on patient's mood? Etc. Any and all input is appreciated. Tks.

Phos has a reciprocal relationship with Calcium, meaning that if your calcium is low, your phos will be high, and vice-versa.
Hyperphosphatemia: twitching and possibly seizures.
If the phos is high, the calcium will be low so you could administer calcium
Hypophosphatemia: muscle weakness, fatigue, apathy
If the phos is low, replace with potassium phosphate or sodium phosphate.
