When I started having hotflashes, I used homeopathy and it worked. I don't remember what the remedy was, but I was very surprised how well it worked as I didn't know much about homeopathy at the time.
Personally, I have never used HRT as it seems too extreme and has too many side effects for my liking.
I would consult a homeopath or read one of the many books available at the health food stores that suggest remedies.

My mom had a hysterectomy when she was 30, and was on HRT for a long time. Then she started gaining a lot of weight because of them and was not liking it. She stopped taking Premarin and started on some kind of Soy Product pill. Now she takes Estroven, which can be bought over the counter. She is having no problems with it at all.

Thanx for all the info. Giving homeopathy a try. Thanks for the recommendations about soy, Estroven, and Black Cohash. There are many, many herbal products on the internet, don't know which ones work. Can anyone recommend specific herbal products by name brand? BTW, LoisJean, how much Boron do you take? Never heard of this tx before. Thank you all so much for all your help. It is greatly appreciated :)

Hey all you 40-some female nurses out there--does ANYONE know of any herbal or other product that is a good alternative for HRT (Prempro, etc)? Something that REALLY works! Having "hot flashes" at work--say, in the middle of a code--is a real bummer--extra stress that I just don't need right now, affecting my job performance, emotional state, ability to think, and interrupting what little sleep I do get in between night shifts. Do NOT want to take HRT, because of cancer risk (first-degree relative with breast cancer). So please, suggestions anyone? Thanxxx!
