How to renew LVN license in CA for the first time?

Updated:   Published

Can you please tell me how you renewed your license for the first time? Mine needs to get renewed this December. Did the BVNPT send you a reminder ahead of time for renewal? How early can you renew and how was the process? Also I am a bit confused about LVNs having to earn hours of continued education that I think the bvnpt requires? From what I understand renewing the first time is okay wothout hours of continued education. I was meaning to email BVNPT but I thought asking here would help since it is based from your experience. Hope to hear from you. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure the Boards will snail mail you. You can then renew it online (at least for RNs you can; am assuming you can with LVN).

The first time you renew, you do not need to worry about CEU.

I can't speak for the LVN board, but the RN board sent me a notice in the mail. I imagine the LVN board would do the same.

Also, the CEU requirement is indeed waived for the first renewal...but I don't know if that would apply to LVN endorsees as well as those who were initially licensed in CA. I question it because I endorsed into CA a couple of years ago and when it came time for me to renew for the first time, I still had to pony up 30 CEUs. So if you endorsed into CA, that question is one that you may want to ask the BVNPT about.
