Hi, I will be taking a 30 hour weekend-long CNA course later this month at Florida Medical Prep (they are highly recommended) and hopefully taking my Florida CNA certification exam next month (in FL, you can challenge the CNA exam, but I want to take a course first as I have no medical experience).
I am curious as to what the average wage is for both nursing homes and hospitals in the Orlando area. I currently make $7.90 an hour in retail.. only getting 10-20 hours a week, ick. I am still a student, and I am planning on going to nursing school eventually and I would really like the medical experience under my belt, and possibly get my foot in the door somewhere.

Hello. I'm in Orlando and I make 9.00 an hour at an assisted living facility and 8.75 at a nursing home. My friend works at Arnold Palmer and makes 10.75. But of course everything will vary depending on facility
Thank you. How difficult is it for CNA's to get jobs in the Orlando area, in your experience?
Its weird because its difficult and not difficult at the same time. Its hard to get in the really good ltcs but kind of easy to get in elsewhere. Only problem is all the places that have offered me a job so far have only been part time jobs. So right now I'm working one part time job that gives me 20 hours a week and another one that is every other weekend. It just seems places aren't hiring full time and if they are then they want someone with experience. That's been my situation anyway. Been desperate to find something with more hours. Just make sure to apply to everywhere possible no matter how frustrating it is and call them back fairly often and you shouldn't have a problem finding something.
Thanks Codeda. Did you ever try applying at any hospitals as a Patient Care Tech? Or did you only apply to LTC facilities?
This worries me. One of the reasons I am looking outside of retail is because I'm not receiving hardly any hours at my current job (I believe most of part-time retail is like this now). :/

I believe Florida Medical Prep also helps you find a job afterwards. Is the program your taking in Leesburg? I know a friend that took the course there and after she took her exam and passed it works in Leesburg at Avante she gets good hours she works 3-11pm 5 days a week she got the job through Florida Medical Prep.

I took class at Florida Medical Prep and can't find a job anywhere but home health. Waterman hopsital and LRMC and all the LTC's all want experience...so my question is how do I get experience if no one will give me a chance? I DON"T want to do home health. Sorry venting a little I guess but if anyone has any advice PLEASE HELP I work as a waitress now and once it's "out of season" when everyone goes back north I will be making like no money. SOrry for the vent TIA
From what I read on their website.. I thought they only helped with job placement around the Tampa area, as they are based out of there. But that would be really awesome if they could help me find a job around here.
Did you try seeing if Florida Med Prep would help you with job placement?
Surely there's got to be somewhere that will take you on with no experience. You might have to settle for doing home health for a bit, just to get some under your belt. Did you try looking for jobs further out than Tavares/Leesburg area? Like more towards Apopka, Orlando etc.? I know it's a bit more of a drive.
Try looking on Craigslist and other online job websites. I am sure you (and I, eventually) will find something. :)
