I care for my mother who has Alzheimer's and she takes Aricept. I also care for my mother-in-law who also has this and she takes Namenda.
My mother is 57 my mother-in-law is 64. Mother diagnosed 2 years ago, mil diagnosed 4 years ago. Mother is still in the mild to moderate stage. MIL is in the moderate to severe. MIL was recently placed in a home for Alzheimer's patients due to a physical incident with one of my children.
Both take Vitamin E due to the fact this dissolves in fat, readily enters the brain, and may slow down cell damage.
Other than the AD they neither have any other medical issues as of now. Neither suffered any noted head trauma. My mother was a nurse, MIL was a hair dresser.

neither has tremors. MIL was one of the most docile people I know until this latter stage began. She has become easily agitated and as I said was placed in a home. Her memory is considerably worse than my mothers. She most of the time is in a place about 20 years ago when my husband was a teen and she was still a hairstylist. She insists on keeping a notepad where she keeps track of appointments. She has moments of clarity, those are decreasing. I would say maybe once a week she is actually able to be where we are. MIL cannot, from what the neurologist has said, form new memories. She repeats questions, is most of the time now incontinent. She has to have someone with her when she eats because she will forget to eat and drink. I have learned weight loss and dehydration are unfortunately common in AD patients. (I am a nursing student as well so I am learning this disease from 2 different sides)
If I can help you with anything else please let me know.. Good luck on your work.
