Any suggestions on how to approach yearly evaluations with manager/director?
Any pointers on how to negotiate points?

Compile a list of achievements/contributions from the year. Did you attain any certifications? Did you serve on any employee committees? Did you make any suggestions for changes that improve work flow and efficiency? Did you orient new staff? Precept a nursing student? Think of concrete examples of how you achieve goals that you set for yourself and how you went above and beyond. Good luck on your eval!

1. Look at each criteria on the evaluation tool, one by one.
2. Focus your energy and doing something "extra" or "special" in each catergory and don't waste energy on a lot of other efforts that may or may not influence your score. Know what factors count in the scoring system and focus most of your attention on them -- not other things that you may value, but your manager doesn't.
3. Be sure you don't get any points deducted by having and problems with the basics -- attendance, signing off on all required paperwork, not documenting on things that should be, etc. A lot of people lose points because of little things that they don't think are important, but the manager weighs heavily in evaluations. 4. Ask for some feedback at the mid-way point and don't wait until the official evaluation to find out that the manager is unhappy with something you haven't been paying attention to.
