I used to like finding out how people studied to pass nclex so I thought I would tell you how I did it, hopefully it will be useful to someone!
I am from England and immigrating to America so looking at an NCLEX book was like looking at a french book, especially the mental health, childrens and maternity (I am an adult trained nurse and we only had to write 1 report on those three areas, no practice at all!).
Anyways, I was given an NSNA NCLEX RN Review 4th Edition book and a Drexcel University NCLEX Excel audio review course (which contained 20 audio cds).
I found it very difficult to concentrate reading and studying alone from this book, so I played each cd whilst going through the book so it felt like I had people teaching me and helping me to undertand the content. It was good as you could stop and start whenever you came across a topic which you needed to spend a little more time on.
I could have never have studied as hard as I did without these cds!
I did just look on amazon.com and these cds seem rather expensive, but you could investigate the library or ebay!
Well I hope this has helped someone!
Good luck with studying
P.s I forgot to add, I also read the Kaplan book, and did at at least 1 test of 75 questions of the Nclex 3000 cd once a day. I also would make index cards of important facts that I could carry around with me! :)
Thanks for the post. I have Drexel's DVD course and NSNA Book 5th edition. It is very comprehensive. I like to read the book and DVD together because you feel like you are there. Thanks Again. ROzy
