How do I get a job

Nurses Recovery

Specializes in ICU, Psychiatric Nursing.

This is my 2nd time being in the HPSP the first time was 2004-2007 I completed everything and stayed clean for 6 years. I divereted pain medication for my self. I went back to work in the hospital and started to use drugs again for a few months, prior to getting caught I went to a Dr that specializes in addiction and he put me on suboxone. It made me feel high so being I continued to diverte a few more medications and got caught. I lost my license for 18months and have it back now with restrictions. I cannot administer controlled medications for 2000 hours and must be supervised by another RN on the same unit. I really don't want to go back to hospital work but it seems with my restrictions the only other place were you work with another RN. I almost got hired doing dialysis were there are no narcotics but no other RN on the same unit to supervise me.I never felt so low in my life, I had a few interviews and did tell them I was in the HPSP and never was hired. I've been sober for now for 36 months and cannot find a job, right now I work in the Mental Health field but they cut my hours to 2 days a week (federal budget cuts).I have no savings and no other support. Can anyone tell me if they have a similiar situation and have found a job. I realize how bad this looks but I am a good Nurse and a good person and have delt with addiction my whole life. I was sober for 12 years before I relapsed in 2003.I work daily on my sobriety I love living sober and never ever want to go back.If any one has comments, advise or really tell me how they would feel working with a Nurse with my history. I can't get a job in a chemical dependency unit because they give Ativan and other drugs for detox. .Thank you I got off that suboxone as soon as I could that drug should be banned it was the hardest detox ever.
