How do I apply for an IL RN lic if I have WI lic but haven't worked as RN in years

Hi, I am considering returning to nursing after taking 9 years off from the field. I am trying to figure out the proper way to apply for an RN license in IL and whether or not anyone will even hire me. I have a current license for WI (where I graduated and took my boards). My understanding is that if I have not worked recently as an RN then I can not get a license by endorsement. I am thinking that I would need to retake the NCLEX and apply the way a new grad would. Does that make sense? I don't want to waste time and money by doing it the wrong way first.

I will probably have to try calling to figure this out but I was hoping someone here might have some insight on the process and how tough it might be to find a job.
