How to go about switching to PRN

Nursing Students Technicians

I am thinking about taking another job with home health. I am currently full time nights at my hospital. It is not working for me and need to go per diem. Any suggestions on how to tell my director? Should I send her an email because I never see her and we work the complete opposite schedule? I have to do something because this shift is not working for me.

Thanks you guys!

I would probably either email my director and ask for a time I could come in to speak with her during the day, or just come in during the day when I knew she'd be there and pop into her office. It really depends on your director, your working relationship, and your work environment.

My director has what's pretty much an open-door policy, so I'd just come by during day shift to speak with her without sending the email first. Yours might be different. Although it's probably not a big deal, I'd prefer to talk to her about it in person rather than sending an impersonal email. But that's just me.

Good luck!

Depending on the size of the facility, try speaking with HR or "people services" type offices. If you haven't gotten to move to PRN make it clear that it is in your best interest and check your contract for any parts that state time retainers or competition clauses.
