How do you go back?

Dear AN family,

I have a PRN (pool) unit clerk job as of about 1 month ago and I absolutely love it! But I have two questions about staying healthy. First, any tricks of the trade on getting coffee before 1000 after getting up at 0530 just to be barely on time? (Yes we all know that coffee is an essential part of the health discussion :). I have instant coffee, but I don't even have time to heat water in the morning, I basically throw my scrubs on and tear out the door!

Thing two, of course when I get home I inhale some supper and sleep like a baby :sleep: But recently, I've been wanting to basically sleep for the next day or two and that doesn't fit too well with studying for a test less than 48 hours away. How do you do it? Is it just a matter of getting used to it and building stamina? Do you sleep extra hours before a shift? All advice welcome!!

Get a Keurig- hot cup of coffee in 30 seconds. Love it.

I worked full time nights as a tech in nursing school. I gave sleep a bit more priority- knew I couldn't study unless I had a decent amount in me. I would definitely try to get a nap in before going to work- thought that helped a lot.

Start studying weeks in advance. You retain the information better because you've gone over it several times. I would spend my off week doing assignments/studying for upcoming exams.

I think the first few shifts are probably the roughest. It gets better. Drag your butt out of bed after 9+ hours of sleeping- get out of the house to study so you won't be tempted to sleep, as well as a nice big cup of coffee, and you're set.

Good advice, thanks! I can't imagine doing nights, I'd never survive :facepalm: I guess that's why the ER has a Keurig, hopefully the floors will get some? I hadn't thought of leaving the house just to get away from my bed; I think I'll give that one a try.
