How do you get your resume and application past HR?

I can't get HR to forward my resume and application to the Hospice manager. I don't have any home health experience, is this why they won't give me a second look? I have 10 years of ICU and 10 years of med-surg hospital experience, plus almost 2 years of telephone triage nursing.

When I had talked to the manager she said that HR had not forwarded my resume and application to her. Frustrating that you work so hard at going above and beyond for 20 years and then they won't even give you an interview or a second look.

I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN TO ME.. and recently. I find that if HR does not feel you are a good fit they will not forward your resume..

Mine was.. I have 8yrs hospice experience, 4 of which were case manager, 1.5 of which I was an admissions RN AND I DID 1.5 years of supervisoriy experience as team manager.

THere is a small program here that I applied for online and the place had several listings of which I could apply for. NOTHING, no call, no email no nothing.

I finally decided to follow up and contact HR. It took 3 emails and finally a phone call to her. Nothing. What got her attention? APPLICATION DENIED FOR CASE MANAGER AND I HAVE * YEARS HOSPICE EXPERIENCE.... that subject matter got her response.

I never thought peons run HR but they do. I was told I was not a viable candidate because... I only have my ADN not my BSN!! Like that matters.

I told her it's her agency's loss and this alone that will make finding a candidate much more difficult. IN that rolls they were seeking a BSN is NOT needed.

I would suggest this to you. Call your agency you wish to employ at. Ask who is your department manager, I'd like to send them a thank you letter, in that letter.. send your resume. I have done this..and it has gotten me in the door.. or you may ask for your agencies fax.. and send them a nice cover letter, explain why you would like to be in hospice and go from there.

Sometimes there are real button pushers in HR who are totally disconnected to what they are hiring for.

I guess I bugged and pestered them enough, because I did get an interview. It was a peer interview and then later if I make the cut, I talk to the big wigs. I was very happy to at least get an interview. I was surprised to learn that a PRN nurse takes one weekend per month on call. I wonder if that's only me from F-M for the whole organization? They have 4 nurses right now but one is out on med leave and they are replacing one nurse so they must have 6 full time nurses. Not sure about that. Their census is 50 right now.
