Hi, I have gotten the flu shot every year since becoming a nurse seven years ago. I have decided I do not want to take it anymore for reasons I will not get into right now. My facility pushes getting it very strongly but it is not mandatory. I know that coworkers are able to not take it due to religious reasons as one example. What are some other examples I could use without telling a lie. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

If it's not mandatory, just tell the truth. Or say nothing at all. "Thanks, but no thanks."

One facility I worked at required/mandated that if you didn't provide proof of a current flu shot or get one the facility would provide, you had to wear a mask during patient cares. Shot or mask, that was the choice. No exceptions.

Ours is shot or lose your job. We don't have the mask option anymore.

I'm surprised that there are still facilities in which the vaccine is not mandatory.

Ours is mandatory also. And if you file an exemption paper it is sent to the medical board to be evaluated. If you are basing it on medical or religion you have to have paperwork to back not up.

You can quit.
Good luck in your new profession.

Considering it's now tied to Medicaid/Medicare reimbursement, I'm highly surprised that any facility is allowing anyone to just not get it. Where I work, only religious or medical exemptions are allowed, and must be formally filed. If you don't file and don't get a shot, you are fired.

I hate the flu shot, so I get the flu mist.

I'm amazed at how a job can force you to put something in your body that if you don't want to. What has this world come to? What happened to just washing your hands and covering your mouth when you cough, sneeze, etc?
I've never gotten the flu shot I'm my life. And I wish someone would threaten me of my job. I'd just quit. No sweat off my back. I know some people can't afford to do that though which makes it more sad because employers now some people just can't afford to quit.
