Is anyone else starting EVC Fall 2013 who is going to have to commute? If so, how far or long will it take you? Just curious if I am going to be miserable or if it is doable! :)

Where are you driving from?101 is freaking horrible, kind of like LA horrible during peak hours.

From Martinez. I've done the drive a few times where I left my house by 6 and made it an hour and 15min. There was a little traffic but not too bad! I haven't done the drive enough times to know if I just got lucky those days! :) I don't know a lot about the South Bay or it's traffic so I appreciate whatever info or different routes you have!

Since you are coming from Martinez, I would highly suggest that you leave your house that early, if not a little bit more so because after probably 6:30 AM, Highway 680 is going to be hammered. About ten years ago, I used to drive from Sacramento to Mountain View and if I left the house at approximately 5:30 AM, I would arrive in Mountain View at around 8 AM. Fortunately, my shift usually started at 9 AM so that wasn't much of a problem. I took to leaving my house at about midnight so that I could arrive down there around 2:15 AM, and then simply sleep for a few hours and wake up approximately 20 minutes before I had to be at work and I would be rested and ready to go.

I think that Google has on their maps program a traffic history type of setting that you can see what the traffic is typically like on a given day of the week and a given time of day. Using that type of system, you may be able to get some idea about how long your commute will typically be at that time from point a to point B. It has been a long time since I have used Google maps that way, but I think that functionality is somewhere in that system.

I was thinking the same thing about leaving a little earlier in the mornings! (I am definitely a night person..so this will be a huge change).

WOW!!! Sacramento to Mountain View is quite a commute!! If you can do that I guess anything is possible. Especially for a short amount of time!

I had no idea google maps even had an option to check traffic history. That will really be helpful "guesstimating" how long it averages depending on what time I leave. I appreciate your response. Your personal experience as well as google maps all sound like something to look further into and try out! Thank you again!!
