How to contact a local legislative official

Nurses Activism

Published

I am writing a paper on a current issue in nursing/ health care of interest and importance to nursing. I live in New Jersey and am wondering how I find out who I need to address this letter to. Does anyone have any ideas? I am a new grad RN in a BSN program and this is a mandatory assignment for us (I was thinking about staffing ratios). I am actually very interested in doing this so I'm wondering if anyone has any info on who I need to contact. Thanks in advance guys!

First decide whether you are looking to address the issue at a state or federal level. Then, Google who your state or federal representative and/ or senator is. Their webpage will have their contact info- when I had to do this, I sent it via regular mail as well as email.

House of Representatives

Senate

http://www.senate.gov/

Also, the nursing associations will have the latest issues being addressed on their websites. They may also have the contact information and which government official supports what.
