I graduated with a BA in Political Science in 2017 and I'm currently 25 years old. I had no direction and focus (I switched majors twice) and ended up finishing with a GPA of 2.5 because I had no drive to do better and working was my priority because I was just trying to survive. I worked full time (sometimes two jobs at a time) the whole way through school and was supporting myself with no parental help.
I’ve been out of school for 2 years and I finally realized that I want to go into nursing. I am now living with my parents so I have more freedom now to actually focus on my studies.
I applied to Queens University of Charlotte as a pre-nursing major to take the required prerequisites for the BSN and/or ABSN programs. It's only 7 classes I need to take to get into the ABSN or BSN. I fully intend to get straight A's and maintain a 4.0 GPA for these prerequisite courses and hopefully this raises my overall GPA to a 3.0. I don't have time to really f*** around.
Another factor is that I'm preparing to enlist in the USAF for personal reasons and goals. Also, they will cover a good chunk of tuition if I'm lucky.
Does anyone have a similar experience or have any good advice or guidance for someone like me in this situation? I don't want to feel like this is a hopeless endeavor.

I was a student in Queens traditional BSN program 4 years ago- what an absolutely horrible program!! I’m not sure if that’s changed, but I’d be surprised if it has. I have never in my life seen a group of more miserable, negative, unsupportive professors.
The program is a mess- completely disorganized and incompetent teaching. The high attrition rate should tell you something. But I’m sure Queens won’t let you know about that.
Anyway, the traditional program isn’t too hard to get into. They say you should have at least a 3.0 GPA, but really it should be at least 3.3 if you want your application to stand out. I believe I had around a 3.4 or 3.5 when I was accepted. The accelerated BSN program is a lot more competitive from what I’ve heard, so that’s something to keep in mind.
But there are plenty of other nursing schools in the Charlotte, NC area that you should look at- ones that are much cheaper and where the faculty are actually competent! Stay away from Queens if you want to be treated like a human being and receive a god education ! I’ve heard positive reviews about Chamberlain and Cabarrus College. Also consider CPCC- there’s nothing wrong with going the ADN route first, it will save you tons of money.
