How to apply for a job in rural areas in AB

World Canada

Published

Hi,

I am an IEN and currently looking for a LPN position in AB. I've read many saying that it is not a good time for LPNs, especially for IENs, in AB. Anyway, I was also facing difficulties to get a job,, applied more than 100 and heard nothing yet...

I would not mind going anywhere including north or any rural areas.

I just have one question about that. What is the best way to reach the healthcare facilities in rural settings? Someone just told me that positions in rural facilities are often not posted online,, so I better go and check with them.. Is it true? OR Will I need to apply for positions online??

I appreciate your answer!

Thanks

I tried applying for rural/non-city areas before as an IEN. You have to apply to areas where there is a desperate need since people like us do not have Canadian experience as well as education. I called them and specifically asked the manager or one of the nurses if there was a job availability. I emailed, faxed resumes and also rented a car to personally hand out resumes, CV and also a list of all my references. This works well for private LTC (residential care) but not hosptials. For IENS residential care or home care (private as well as health authority) would be good to get the foot in the door. I personally appealed that I can relocate as soon as I have a job offer, rented cars and drove almost 1000K during the interview time and orientation and also looked for housing options as I had to do all the relocation by myself. Rural areas sometimes will ask you if you have a car so I recommend you look at figuring out transportation issues asap as well. I got a job offer for a position which was empty and was being filled by casuals for 3 months prior. This was a few years ago. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply! it really helped me!
