I've often considered going into home health care so I don't have to stress over the fact that our nursing assistants disappear, openly make personal calls instead of checking in on the patients, surf the internet and are occasionally outright defiant. Management seems afraid of them, and the facility's lawyers seems to think they can't be fired because they will just sue (lawyers....sigh....but that is another story).

But once I heard Hahnemann laid off its nursing assistants to go with an all RN workforce I've had some hope that perhaps this new model might catch on, particularly in Philly, where selfishness and attitude from nursing assistants seems to be more common than not. Of course I love working with some of our CNA's, but there just aren't enough that seem to have that strong work ethic and really partner with the RN.
