Houston October 2015 Residencies

Published

Hi everyone! I graduate with my BSN in August, and have started applying to different October residencies in Houston! Just wondering if anyone else has started applying to the residencies as well, and if anyone has heard back from them? Also, this can be a thread for support and encouragement as we all start life AFTER nursing school in Houston lol.

Specializes in Emergency.

Hey! I am also applying for residencies in Texas for this fall. I'm interested in ER and Trauma, preferably in a Level 1 Trauma Center. Do you know of any in Houston? I can only find Memorial Hermann.

I haven't heard of any Level 1 trauma anywhere else. I wanted that too! But I got offered a residency on a cardiac IMCU, so I think I'll be starting there. I'm so excited!

I recently started applying for nursing residency programs but I haven't heard anything back yet, perhaps cuz it's only been about a week. I wanted to pass exit HESI before starting the application process. I wonder how long does it take to hear anything after submitting an online application?

Well for me, it was within the week that I applied that I heard from them. I got a chance to talk to a nurse manager and he said that they really like when stud net actually come up to the until to introduce themselves and network because it shows how much they want it, and they can actually forward your resume to HR. That's what one girl at my school did in the clas before me and she actually got the job, before even filling out an application.

@acruz183, if you don't mind me asking what hospital did you accept an offer from? I am waiting to hear from Houston Methodist TMC and just received an interview at Ben Taub. I am from Oklahoma and the job search in Houston has been difficult!

I accepted an offer from Houston Methodist Willowbrook, and I definately know what you mean,it's very competitive in houston!

@acruz183 Houston Methodist Willowbrook, is one of the hospitals I am looking into when I graduate in December! How are you liking it so far? Can you give me a little summary about how the residency program/orientation is going?!

Thanks!

I haven't started yet, our on boarding starts in September, but so far everyone has been really nice. My friend works there as a surg tech and he love it.

Hey, i just got a call for an interview with methodist willowbrook. Do you have any tips on what to expect? Thank you so much in advance

awesome! Be ready to give examples of instances where you had an "almost mistake" or where you learned from an opportunity. And really let your personality shine through. I love the hospital, there is definitely a team mentality and we all try to work together. I work on 7E, the cardiac medsurg/IMU.
