I had a question for those of you who work or have worked in hospitals in the Western North Carolina/Asheville area! It may be a bit personal to answer but any feedback you feel like giving would be so helpful!
I am starting nursing school at Western Carolina this summer, and in my overall nursing research have read a lot about "good" vs. "bad" hospitals to work for - a "good" hospital being one that takes care of their nurses, sticks to a reasonable patient to nurse ratio most of the time (i.e., not understaffed), hasn't fallen prey to the "customer service" mode of assessment that is getting so popular, coworkers are generally happy to be there, minimal unnecessary micromanagement, etc. We have just moved to the area so I am not as familiar with the hospitals near me yet. I'm sure I will get to know them better as I go through clinicals, but I'd love to hear your thoughts!
I am coming from the software world where unnecessary micromanaging, understaffing, and unqualified managers were the bane of my existence, so that's where this question is coming from. I have heard a lot of talk about the hospital that is closest to my house, but it was just bought out by Duke so I'm wondering if the tides are changing.
I know that talking about hospitals and former/current employers can be a slippery slope, so TIA for any advice and sorry if this question is too personal!
