Hospitals in Monterey

U.S.A. California

Hello,

I am going to be a new grad in the spring from a Canadian BScN program. I am wanting to relocate to somewhere warm and have been speaking with a recuriter from the travel agency about the Monterey area. I am wanting to know what are the hospitals like in the area? Are they receptive to new grads? What is the area like and are the living expenses very high? Finally, does it have a fairly young population? If anyone who knows about the area could respond that would be great!

P.S are there many Canadian nurses in the area?

Hi There!

I don't live there yet, but will be moving to Monterey in March/April due to my boyfriend going there for graduate school (he is military) there are two hospitals, Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula (www.chomp.com) and Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital (www.svmh.com) I am applying to both, but obviously the comm hospital is smaller, etc.

The area is wealthy, but I have found apartments a tad cheaper than southern cal ($1300-1500 for a two bed apt in Monterey). There is the Naval Postgraduate School, which is grad edu for Naval and Air Force officers, plus other military schools, so yes it is a younger population. You also have Cal State Monterey Bay and a community college, so more young ppl there.

San Francisco is about 115 miles north, so that is nice..and it is beautiful there, but be prepared for fog and not the CA sun you may think of...

I personally am happy to be moving there, I want out of Los Angeles, so it will be a nice break.

Best of luck to you!
