Hospitals hiring ADN grads into ICU?

Published

Does anyone know of any specific hospitals that prefer to hire ADN grads in the ICU? I would be very grateful for any suggestions.

Right now it's very difficult. I have a friend with a BSN who could not get into ICU. My suggestion would be to start looking for jobs in telemetry, or stepdown, and work on your skills, and then apply when there are openings in the ICU.

Freeflowchi-I just read your other posts, and now see it's not so much a problem of landing an ICU job as a problem of landing a job in general. So, now I want to suggest that you head over to the "First Year in Nursing" forum, and check out the sticky entitled "Any hospitals hiring new grads?" Lots of suggestions, and I'll add another of my own. My hospital in upstate NY has several med-surg positions posted that say "one year experience preferred, BSN preferred" - but trust me, they'll hire new grad ADN's! You can PM me if you want to know where it is...

It is really frustrating how much people bring up BSN vs ADN nurses....I have been working in healthcare for over 6 years and I FEEL as do many other RNs that it doesn't really matter in most cases when it comes down to it. It is all about the person themselves, theri experience, personality, etc...

Yes a BSN degree is great, but when starting out as a GN your focus is not on managing others and so forth.

I agree completely. Unfortunately, organizations and hiring managers do not. We should all be working together to improve nursing and healthcare, but a trend is emerging to disqualify ADN graduates from even applying to new grad programs.
