Hospitals in Boston; fun?

Published

I am going to do my CNA training this summer with the Red Cross, and was wondering if ye of experience could advise me as to where the best CNA jobs are. Should I aim for a hospital or nursing home? Are there specific wards/floors of a hospital that might be most fun for a budding nurse to start off on? I want to get a good hospital experience under my belt before going to get my BSN in fall '05.

Thanks!

Stephie

P.S. Can CNA's work on the Psychiatric floor? What about Labor and Delivery?

I don't know anything about Boston but I have teched on a psych floor and know people who have teched on L&D, so those positions do exist.

I would say work at MGH, I worked there in clinical research before my accelerated BSN, so I do not know how it is there for CNAs (i believe they call them PCAs there). But it is a magnet hospital (and in case you do not know getting magnet status is all about nursing conditions and there are not many hospitals in the country that can make this claim). Also on the east coast working at MGH is a BIG thing (being the #4 hospital in the country...at least I think?!). But I guess in general I would say that working in a hospital would be more beneficial since it will prepare you for working in a hospital setting.

Thanks for the advice about MGH! I think I'll focus on working there then; plus it's on the T and I won't need to buy a car! Yay! Could you tell me more about what it means to be a "magnet" hospital?

Thanks!
