Hopkins Nurses: Tuition Reimbursement

Hi all,

I have a question about tuition reimbursement for hopkins employees. They say they reimbuse 100% up to 10/15 k/year for full time employees working 40 hrs per week. I'm wondering if there is leeway for nurses who may only work 36 one week and then 40 or 48 the next. Do you have to be at least 40 hrs every single week? A friend of mine works for howard county general (part of hopkins) and she was hired full time at 72 hrs per pay (like most of their nurses) and they won't reimburse her 100%. It's like a loop hole so they don't have to reimburse most nurses. Hope this is not the case for Hopkins (where I start in July)...

Thanks in advance

You're usually paid a percentage based on your hours. For example, if you work three 12 hour shifts per week, you're 90%. If full time employees (80 hour/week) earn $5000 per year tuition reimbursement, you would earn $4500/year (90% of $5000).

Some places just cut it in half if you're part time. I work 20 hours a week, so I get 50% of what full time employees make.

HCGH is tricky with its reimburement, especially for dependents. You have to work 80 hours a week & be employed for 2 years before they pay that benefit. That's how it was when I worked there last year. Also, for staff tuition reimbursement, you have to promise to work for them for 6 months after the class ends or you have to pay it back. They paid $5000 undergrad & $7500 for grad school per year for full time employees, so it was a good benefit if you're willing to stay there.

You can always call HR & ask them but you may not get a straight answer. Also, go to one of the local recruitment job fairs & see if you can get a direct answer from the recruiter.
