Home Nurse Insight on Job

Hi Everyone,

I was just curious...

1. What’s the most stressful part of being a visiting nurse?

2. What are three things you wish you could change as a visiting nurse?

3. What do you like best about being a visiting nurse?

4. What apps are useful for visiting nurses?

Thanks Kelly

1. What’s the most stressful part of being a visiting nurse?

Schedule changes daily, sometimes, for instance if another nurse calls in. Keeping up with charting was hard for me personally but I think I was the only one. (Was brand new at the charting system though) Don't wait to write your notes, trust me. Immediately enter and wound charting especially on days you measure.

2. What are three things you wish you could change as a visiting nurse?

I wish there was more time to spend with the patients, some of them are very lonely. Keep boundaries and explain expectations from the beginning so your 20ish minute visit doesn't turn into 90 minutes. You will get behind and be out way too late.

3. What do you like best about being a visiting nurse?

There is some flexibly with scheduling but do your best not to reschedule to a day later in the week because then you will end up with too many on Friday when you're already tired from the week.

4. What apps are useful for visiting nurses?

I would recommend an up to date drug guide. Lab tests with normal/abnormal ranges. Maybe even a cliff notes type of thing for care plans based on dx.

I hope some of this is helpful,

This nurse
