Home Health while pregnant

I have been doing home health for a little over a year and I am currently 8 weeks pregnant with my first child. I was just wondering what I'm in for later in the pregnancy. Luckily I haven't had much morning sickness but I'm worried about getting in and out of the car all day when I get bigger. I just wanted to know if anybody had worked home health while pregnant and how difficult it is. TIA!

Congrats on your pg! How exciting!

I have only been pg while an RN in hospital nursing

and have no plans to be pg as a HH RN.

Am certain another friend will answer.

Hi,

I've been pregnant with two of my babies whilst working home health. It's tiring, but just being pregnant is tiring! :-)

Getting in and out of the car wasn't so much the problem. The biggest problem was trying to work in the home environment trying to do awkward dressing changes etc. Can't raise the bed up!

Just make sure you take frequent breaks to walk around, drink plenty water, get lots of sleep and maybe lighten up on the caseload towards the end. You'll do just fine.

In comparison, working in the hospital pregnant was absolutely exhausting. I had to finish a few weeks early with my first because of this. Homehealth, I pretty much was able to keep going til the births!

Hope that helps, good luck to you!

I did Home Health while pregnant with my 1st child also. Getting in and out of the car was not bad. I was due on April 18th and worked up to the 16th. Your going to get tired towards the end irregardless of what position you are in, plus the peeing!LOL At that point I would use ANY bathroom.LOL. I am an LPN not RN but all the case mangers and other LPN's supported me in that they wouldn't let me go to a patient that was really difficult to manuver, gave me the simple easy to reach wound cares, or teaching visits, etc. They would just switch out visits and tell the scheduler. VERY nice of them, but I think they appreciated that I did all I could for as long as I could and didn't whine thru the whole pregnancy or put my load on them..LOL

I have a nine month old and a 2yr old. I worked in a hosp while pregnant with my two yr old. It was horrible. I was working 12's. I stopped working one month before my due date.My last pregnancy I worked in HH. I stopped working two weeks before I was due to allow the office time to find coverage for my patients. I actually could have worked until my due date. Like the others said getting out of the car wasn't the problem . It was just being tired from the pregnancy itself especially near the end. My patients and my co-workers were very helpful to me while I was pregnant, and yes I did have a lower ext. drsg change in a not so clean house with nowhere to sit while I changed the drsg. Other than that HH worked out very well to me while pregnant with my baby.

I worked HH while I was pregnant and found it to be easier than being pregnant and working on the floor for 12 hours. That was hard!
