Hello to all. Haven't been here in a while. Hope all is well. I have a question concerning how the HIV/AIDS virus is transmitted. I know this will sound crazy but can you transmit the virus through the use of a toothbrush? I know it can be transmitted thru sexual contact, sharing needles and from mother to child but does anyone know and can postively tell me if it's contracted thru the use of a toothbrush? Should one consider testing for the virus? Thanks to all! Mel

There are no documented cases or suspected cases of HIV transmission via toothbrush. If you are sexually active* or have ever been then yes you should be tested.

There are suspected cases of transmission of Hepatitis B and C via toothbrush. So add a Heaptitis Panel to the list.

* Any activity where body fluids are exchanged. Kissing, fingering, etc.

Hi everyone,

Off the subject of toothbrushes. Trying to stay within HIPPA guidelines.

Does anyone know anything about the transmission of AIDS or Hepatitis through the consumtion feces?

Yes, I do and to answer your question there have been no documented cases of catching HIV thru feces or urine. HIV is found (if any) in very small amounts of urine and feces. Besides...once it (the virus) hits air it is viral load is reduced tremendously!

If you really want to know I get all my information thru a website called "the body". it is a fantastic website regarding HIV/AIDS. Tell your doctor he might want to check that out as well. Physicians should know so that they can inform the public should the question arise. Dr. Bob is the chief in command on that website.
