High risk infant clinics

Specialties NICU

Anybody work in a high risk infant follow up clinic/nicu follow up clinic? I am very interested in infant development and the progression of baby's after the nicu. Would like to get more info and pick others minds that work in these types of clinics.

How did you get into your job?

what is your typical day?

Suggestions on how I can get ahead in this area? I am currently a level 4 nicu nurse.

Specializes in NICU, PICU, PACU.

We have our preemie clinic once a month in 2 locations. We have all services there such as dietary, OT/PT, surgery, Neuro, social work, WIC, lab. One stop shopping. It runs from 8am to 6pm.

You have to be familiar with general milestones and go by corrected age. Some kids are okay according to their corrected age, others are behind. We also manage the monitors, meds and formula needs. They are seen by a team of an attending, a fellow and whatever specialty they need.

We occasionally go help out when we are slow, but the regular peds girls handle it on a regular basis. We follow our graduates for 2 years.

Thank you for your input :)

my hospital has a follow up clinic and patients are seen M-F every week. I am not sure of all the resources it provides parents like your clinic does. It is relatively new though and only has one nurse at this time and no position openings :(
