HH post op surgery question

Published

I do private duty hh pretty much ft for this one pt, for over 3 years. He has no family so I am also his medical POA. He is 87 and recovering from fracture femur surgery. What sort of therapy does this surgery look at, how often how long? He is presently at our local nursing home for transitional care. I went to check on him, wasn't shaved for 5 days, no shower, no ambulation, therapy was one a day. I am wanting to just bring him home as he is not progressing. Actually looks worse than right after surgery. I have made some formal complaints. I am ordering a lift chair and raised toilet seat. Any other suggestions to make the transisition to home? Thanks::

Tell the nursing home you want a meeting with physical therapy and nursing to update you on his progress and needs. Request that physical therapy continue at home and have them prepare a home health exercise program that you can assist him with. The therapist can help with DME, see if he needs a hospital bed with overhead trapeze and pressure relief mattress. Remove all scatter rugs at home for safety reasons.Ask if there is a registered dietician that you can consult with regarding his dietary needs to improve nutritional status.
