HESI Fundamental Exam

Published

Hello everyone!

I just recently took the fundamental hesi exam and kinda failed horribly...

I never got such a low score in ANYTHING before..

I scored a 729 = 63%

My average in the class was OK- i was passing even though my Hesi score was so low, but then i took the final(didn't get the grade I need), and I am literally .25 from the passing mark. (My school doesn't round, or add homework/project unless they see you have passed from your overall test grades)

My teacher is letting me re-take the exam, and i just need a 65%..this time, but obviously i will def. try to aim higher.

did anyone re-take it before?? was it the same exam or different?

also any suggestion how i should prepare or study?

My class had a few people that got below 70%. Most people achieved above 85% (mine was 91%). I would recommend you looking at the Evolve case studies and practicing every single fundamental case study they have. You really cannot prepare for the HESI because the questions are just so out there.

There's a Comprehensive HESI/NCLEX review book that you can get on the Evolve site as well. That's really the only thing you CAN do. Practice, practice, practice.

Write out the nursing process on a scrap piece of paper as well as Maslow's hierarchy of needs. HESI is pretty much graded solely around the nursing process (you will see that in the evaluation). When you see a question, think to yourself, "Where in the nursing process is this? Is it assessment? Diagnosis?", etc. etc.

When you do the case studies, READ THE RATIONALE! Who cares if you got it right. Read it!
