HESI exam

I am currently a nursing student in the ADN program. Does anyone have any advice on studying for the HESI exam? HELP

You can purchase a HESI Admission Assessment Exam Review book around $35. Some ppl say it's not worth it, but at least it gives you an idea of what may be on the quiz. The most helpful parts for me were the vocab and math section. I didn't study all that much, but what I did study is what helped me pass the exam. Study the measurement conversions well if you aren't able to remember them from school. And go through the vocab paying extra attention to any words you aren't familiar with. These words ended up on my exam. Glad I knew them. The HESI isn't extremely difficult. I had been out of school since 1997, and took the test on February 24. I passed all exams; I wish I had scored higher. But can't complain considering I didn't take a lot of time to study for the exam. I got a 88 on Grammar, 90 on Vocab, 93 on Reading, and a 94 on Math. Hope this encourages you. I was surprised I scored that low on Grammar. This was always my strong point in school. Anyway, good luck to you!

In response to my first reply, I should have read your question more clearly. I assumed you were asking about the HESI Entrance Exam. Sorry!

I just took a HESI in December that covered everything up to psych. I also just took the HESI last week for psych alone and did really well on both (91 & 90). My sister bought me Mosby's Review Cards for the NCLEX by Manno, which I did as much as possible. They really helped because it gave the rationale for every answer and they are separated into groups (Fundamentals, Peds, Maternity, Med-Surg, etc.) You might also want to check out NCLEX 3500 online; they had tons of good stuff there. The most important thing, however, is understanding the question thoroughly. Most sites will explain that NCLEX/HESI style questions are formatted in a strategical way. Make sure you read the question and reread it again to understand WHAT it's asking you. But, at the same time, don't "read into" the question. Weird, I know. We took the test on a computer and I asked for a piece of scrap paper so I could write down the number and A, B, C, D. As I did each question I put a line through the ones that were obviously not correct.

Don't study the day of the exam (you'll get anxious and nervous). Make sure you get a good night sleep and eat a good meal before the test; you might want to bring a snack with you too. Just practice, practice, practice and remember your Airway, Breathing and Circulation! You'll do great. Good luck and keep us posted!

AHHHH LOL, this question brings back so many memories. We had to take HESI in nursing school and the crazy thing is we needed to take it as an exit exam that my University REQUIRED us to pass with 90 (or 900), a far cry from the 85 (850) that used to be in effect. Anyway, there is a study book that helps, but honestly HESI was harder than state board!! If you can pass that you pass state board in my opinion. Study all the resources you have for state board, what was that stuff called, ummmm I can't remember, but all the disks and CD Roms the professors are giving you, ALL that stuff. The study books, Frye's lil quirky books of random nursing knowledge was a fun reference, don't know if they make those anymore. Always remember when taking those tests, not only study the right answers, but WHY the wrong answers are not the right answer. The questions are trying to differentiate if you know the difference between say DVT after vein surgery or fat embolism after bone surgery, different clinical data, get it? Take a lot of practice tests. I know it sounds like a lot, but it aint over til it's over. Really push it to the limit! Good Luck!
