HESI A2 exam conversion question

Nursing Students HESI

Published

Hello! I'm taking the HESI in a few weeks and currently studying for it using the Mometrix study guide. I read on previous threads that for the math section we need to know how to convert units. I'm okay with doing this as long as the conversion units are available since I don't have all of these memorized. So my question is, do I need to memorize any of these conversion units or will the test have these available to use when it gives the math problem (i.e. how many liters are in 8 quarts, etc)?

This seems to be the only thing that has me worried about the math portion. Thanks in advanced!

Hey! I just finished taking the HESI A2 today, and the math section was included in mine. I'm sure the exam varies from person to person, but I think mine included 5-10 questions about conversions (out of 55 questions total).

I would absolutely make sure you focus on knowing your metric prefixes and conversion rates. For example, know that there are 1000 milliliters in one Liter and 1000 grams in one kilogram.

I had one question where I had to convert standard time to military time.

The final thing that actually really threw me off guard was converting between American units of volume. I don't think I've studied this since middle school, so I had to try pretty hard to remember back. Memorize the following, and you should be fine:

-8 ounces in 1 cup

-2 cups in 1 pint

-2 pints in 1 quart

-4 quarts in 1 gallon

The test includes an on-screen calculator, but unfortunately, all of the above units need to be memorized, as there is not a conversion guide.

Good luck on the exam! ?

Thank you so much for your response and willingness to share this information! I am so grateful! I didn't have the any of these memorized so I will start working on that now. I hope you did well on your exam!

I am taking the exam next year, do they have yearly study guide for example 2019 version, 2020 version, etc?

The study guide I used was edition 4, and I haven't seen any newer editions than that! The questions will vary on each person's exam, of course, but I believe the study guide and the question app help cover most of the topics that will be on the test!

Hey, been following your input on the test, how much would you say the pocket app contributed to your good score?

Hey, glad my content has been helpful! If I had to break down the things that helped my score by percentage, they would be as follows:

40%-Pocket Prep App

40%-The HESI A2 Prep book made by Elsevier

20%-Previous knowledge from my classes in college and tips by others who had taken the exam

Both the app and book are 100% worth the money in my opinion!
