Where I'm working right now, I have to give several types of vaccines as employees go to various parts of the world. The most common one is the combo Hep A and B, three dose vaccination.
I have one pt who is leaving on Aug. 27 and I gave her the first dose yesterday. On the regular schedule, I could give her the 2nd dose just before she leaves and the third after she's back. Or I could give the compressed schedule of yesterday, 7 days from yesterday and then 21 days from yesterday.
I have been doing my reading and there are arguments for both ways; the two doses may give enough protection and the compressed dosages are more complete. BUT, if someone undergoes the compressed dosage, it's often recommended that they receive a fourth dose to ensure full coverage.
I will try to contact a travel vaccine clinic, but at this point, I'm torn between which schedule to follow. Have any of you come across this?
