Help! When to call back?!

Published

I applied for a GN position with the hospital that I REALLY want to work for. The position was listed as "Graduate Nurse, Weekday" and it's a general opening that they will be hiring about 25-30 people to fill or so. I waited like a week and a half and called them, spoke to the nursing recruiter (who was very nice) to follow up. She said that they were still taking applications and she's waiting for the actual position assignments to be given to her before she starts scheduling interviews, it will probably be in February sometime. That was January 16th. I see on the website that they took the position down, so no one else can apply for it at this point. They took it down last week, I believe. It's listed as "open" still on the "My applications" tab so I know they didn't fill them yet. How long should I wait to call again? I really want this job and I know there is probably going to be a lot of competition to get it. I put together a fantastic cover letter and resume that I attached with the application so I'm hoping that I get noticed. I'm so nervous because I never know what to say when I call so I don't want them to think I'm an idiot, lol.

Since there's been a status change - the posting has been pulled - I'd probably contact the recruiter and ask if the schedule has been firmed up.

"probably in February sometime" leaves a lot of room for uncertainty and provides the justification for the call.

Thank you for your response! The one thing I'm worried about now is what exactly I should say. The first call I left a message on her voicemail with the whole "Hi, my name is so and so and I'd like to follow up on a graduate nurse position I had applied for (with the job ID)." and I left my number and all that. She called back and we spoke for like 5 minutes where she explained what was happening with the position, asked me to spell my name for her and everything, and said, more or less, sometime in february they will be scheduling interviews. I said "Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly" and here's where I think I messed up, lol, she asked if I had any more questions and since I couldn't think of any I said "No, I don't. I was just following up. Thank you!" and we said goodbye. As soon as I hung up I started obsessing over how stupid I sounded, lol. But anyways, my question now would be, I know I will probably get her answering machine. I am not sure what to say in the voicemail. I don't want to say that I'm following up because I don't want to have the same conversation. I was thinking of saying something like "Hi, this is so and so, we spoke briefly on the phone last month about the graduate nurse position that was posted and I would like to know if there has been a change in status yet for that position. I can be reached at blah blah blah. Thank you for your time." Does that sound decent? I don't wanna come off as being a huge bother or anything. lol, I'm bad at this.
