Hello all............I must come up with a teaching plan for my patient who had a left simple mastectomy, reconstuction with TRAM FLAP surgery............she became very depressed after diagnosis........she is 41 years old, 2 small children at home.........and a very good support system ......past history is high cholesterol, and varicose veins.
Anyone know of any good site on breast cancer...and teaching ????.........Should I
1. teach about infection.
2. About depression
3. Way to decrease high cholesterol level
Or should I just focus on her hospital stay...and the cancer.

Focus on the current problems in her life the Hx has nothing to do with her surgery or recovery at this time. S&S I see here is teaching her about what to do and expect in the next days to weeks of healing. I Googled TRAM flap surgery and she may have some abdominal issues as well as the breast surgical site to deal with. Depression is the other biggie....and what may be coming up like maybe follow-up chemo? Try Googling like I did, I found some good sites.
