Help!

Hello all,

I've been reading through this site for quite some days now, and I love reading the advice that you all give to each other and I think it'd be great to get some of your input :D

Okay, so a little bit about me:

I'm 21 years old and I've been at a community college for about three years now, starting on my fourth to get my prerequisites done so that I can apply to nursing programs. I have the option of transferring over to pretty much any school for the Spring '12 semester as a SOCIAL WORK major. I've always loved helping people, but I never really knew what I wanted to do with that passion. I started community college thinking that I wanted to be a nurse, but then I changed majors because I thought social work would be interesting. After being hospitalized last year during December, I decided to pursue nursing again because I loved the care that I was provided. I want to be able to put a smile on someone's face when they're sick and something about the medical field really excites me!

But my family is going through financial hardships and I think maybe I should stick with social work because I'll get it done and I'll be able to start working. My father, however, also wants me to be a nurse and he's supportive of that and I want to be able to make him proud :) He's my hero and nothing could mean more to me than having him proud of me.

So after reading many posts on here I've heard that getting into a nursing program isn't easy, and there are waitlists and all these tests to take and my sister totally thinks I should go for it 'cause she believes in me, but personally, I AM TERRIFIED and I am rambling, but that's because I fear making a HUGE mistake in life.

I've read that many schools don't take certain courses after five or seven years, so I know the clock is ticking. But I fear being rejected!

Compared to everyone else, I think my gpa is really low. I've taken a number of courses at ECC here in California and my overall gpa is 2.8. I don't have a science gpa because those courses are in progress. My main schools of interest are Azusa Pacific U, Loma Linda U, La Sierra U, and of course, Mount St. Mary's College. I really wouldn't mind having to get loans to pay for school because I know it'd be an investment for my career. But I don't want to waste my time taking the sciences courses if I'm not going to get accepted :(

That's the end of my rant. If anyone could help me and give me insightful information that would be great!

If you'd be willing, please share your gpa and what school you transferred to, and if you completed all the required courses (I mean, I know they're required, but I've heard that sometimes personal statements weigh heavier).

Thank you in advance for your response and willingness to read my LIFE STORY lol
