Hi Everyone,
I am one class shy of completing all of the required pre-req's for nursing school. The last class will be finished in December. I will be applying for school starting in January. The application deadline is October 1st. One of the requirements is submitting a resume of everything I have done since high school. I am going to be 38 in a couple months. I do not have any experience in the medical field other than certification in medical coding and billing. I was never able to find a job though without experience. How do I go about completing a decent resume without medical experience? Any helpful ideas or links I could use as reference would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Many people applying will not have medical experience and IMO they won't care really if they do. What they are looking for are the qualities that line up with nursing. Communication, leadership, management, working in a fast paced environment, attention to details etc. IMO its not so much the medical experience but more the characteristics they are looking at. Tailor your resume that way, what can you bring as a student in their nursing program? Will you excel? Will you quit? These are the questions they are looking to answer. Also, compassion and caring.
Best of luck!
Thank you for your reply! I appreciate it. I will need to think of ways to connect my work experience with nursing. I have a tough time wording it short and sweet since it is a resume and there isn't too much detail. I have a resume completed for work purposes though I have been out of work for almost 4 years since I became a stay at home mom to two. I just need to figure out how to recreate it so it fits for nursing school. Thank you again!

Hi there,
may I wonder why don't you google?
There are plenty of tips available online. You can use it.
You can ask specialists for some help as nobody can ever underestimate how important it is to have a good resume. I've personally checked the reviews and found supreme essay guys. They always help me a lot.
Good luck!
Hi Jackie012, Thank your for your response. I actually google everything. I get myself in trouble with my husband because I am always googling something. That is how I decided to join allnurses to ask the question. I saw someone else did awhile back. I took their tips but wanted to check on more. Could you share where you saw all these tips? I only see tips for regular resumes. I am just trying to get an idea of how to set it up for more of a school and not a job. My school asks to include work, education and personal. I wrote down when I took each class (start and ending dates) but I think that is too much info for a resume especially since they will have my transcript but they obviously want education. But that is one of the recommendations I did find online. Should I just keep it pretty much like a job resume or is there something different they are looking for? Maybe I am just over thinking what they are actually looking for. I have looked to apply to many different schools and this is the only one that asks for a resume. Thank you again for your response! I appreciate it.
