HELP, I NEED ADVICE??????should I do 2 yr ADN or LPN transition into 2nd yr ADN prog.

I need some advice..... I was a Surgical Technologist for 8 yrs and went back to school for my LPN which I became licensed in Oct 2007. I stayed in the Operating Room because I knew I wanted to go back to school for my RN. I am completing my last A&P. I took a Mobility Exam in February 2009 and passed : Nursing Foundations, PEDS, OB care of the mother and newborn. By doing this, I was able to test out of the summer semester for the ADN program. That is the last semester before they start their 2nd yr.

I am able to start this summer. I will do the transition course which prepares LPNs to start the 2nd yrs with the RN students. I don't think I would have a problem with that.

My dilemma is since I stayed in the OR and didn't go work on the floor, I feel I have lost the skills I learned in the LPN program. I keep up with all my mandatories and any skills check-offs the hospital requires of me. I feel nervous because I don't do them every day. I am way nervous about clinicals and I have been told the instructors expect you to hit the ground running since you are an LPN, and I am sure the fellow students expect that and much more from you also. (I want them to know I am a student in that setting also)

Here goes.... I have an information session with the nursing director on the 20th of April along with 100's of other prospective ADN students. I will enter the competetive process which deep down inside I feel confident about. I feel if I were to do the 2yr ADN program I would take the opportunity to build on what I learned in the LPN program. It will solidify any areas that I may have just gotten by in.... I want to truly gain a true understanding as to why something is the way it is and why we do what we do to help the patient.....

2. Remember I mentioned the Mobility Exam..... well I have been accepted into that. I do a transition course to check off on skills and paperwork and a few other things. This part of the program is the last 2 semesters of the ADN program. Like I mentioned before, I am really nervous about the clinicals......... I know that the instructors expect you to come in knowing what you are doing, and I feel I have lost some of my skills....... My fellow co=workers that are RNs and just finished the program say I will do fine because of the type of person and student that I am.... they feel I will do fine. I know they mean well.... but I still have that uneasy feeling........

I know I have rambled on and on......... Please any advice from LPNs and RNs would be great in helping me make my decision.....

I want to do what is right form myself , but mainly my future patients..............

My classmates in the LPN program that went on into the transition program last yr, out of 6 of them, only 2 are still in the program set to graduate next month. They are all working as LPNs on the floor, and they are working on their skills everyday, I guess that is what has me totally nervous ............. Help please...........:icon_roll:icon_roll:icon_roll:icon_roll:icon_roll:icon_roll
