Help!Georgia or Michigan?

Published

Hello.

I'm a pre-nursing student at a college in Georgia. The BSN program at my school is fairly new and they have not received accreditation yet. I have friends who applied for fall 2015 and got in but I didnt apply becuse i was a bit worried about the accreditation and whether I really wanted to stay at the school. So, last month i started looking for nursing schools in Georgia that had the same or similar core requirements as my current school but im having the hardest time. Every school wants diffrent science classes ,electives and admission exams. Im from Michigan so i was considering moving back and finding a school there but ive had the same problem finding a program that I could possibly get into. I just dont know what to do, Im 19 and Im really just trying to figure out what would be best for me. So my question is If you are a nursing student in Michigan or Georgia did you apply to mutiple schools? Would you stay at a school without accreditation? Do you think the process is easier in Michigan or Georgia? (if applicable)

Any other advice is wecome!

Thanks

What part of GA are you in?

First, I don't think I'd risk a brand new program either. You don't want to be the guinea pig. Get yourself into a school with high, established NCLEX pass rates. Because USG keeps standards somewhat similar between public colleges in GA, it shouldn't be that hard to find somebody who takes your already-completed pre-reqs. I'm curious what you're having an issue with? Like what classes are people wanting that you don't have yet, and which ones do you have that other schools don't accept? The worst I can think of is that you might have to retake pharmacology at a school if they prefer their own version instead of your school's, but that's just one class.

Second, do you know how difficult it is to find a job as a new grad in MI vs in GA? That all depends on what area you're in and where you're willing to move. I know ADNs are still easily finding jobs in south GA, so a BSN should have no issues. I have no idea about specific prospects for MI, but I imagine it's harder to find good acute care experience in a hospital in some parts than it is in others.

My boyfriend is from northern MI, and I could've chosen to either move to south GA when I graduate or move up to MI with him. The job prospects seemed a lot healthier in south GA, and I tentatively chose that. I already have an interview lined up with a hospital, and have had several more inquire about whether I wanted to work for them. Needless to say, I feel I've made the right decision. But that's me. Only you can tell what the right decision for you might be. Just be sure you do all your research before making it!

Hello,

Thanks for replying to my post. I'm in the middle Georgia area. The reason that i think i'm having a hard time transferring classes is because i'm currently attending a private liberal arts college. For our nursing prerequisites we have to take lots of religion and art based classes, when other public colleges I've seen have prerequisites that are pretty much history and math based. I guess I'll just continue to take prerequisites until I find the right school/ program for me!
