Dear all,
I am in need of advice.
I will be a newly qualified nurse in less than 2 months, I am a mature male student in my mid thirties. I have been extremely lucky finding my first post. I have been offered two positions, the first is in a hospital(A) that is very close to my home and that I'm familiar with since I attended two of my clinical placement there, hospital(A) offered me a position in Acute Admission unit. I was so pleased and happy about the admission unit till I have been offered another position in one of central London hospital - Hospital(B) in interventional radiology.
I cannot make a choice, I have asked about the acute admission uni. many advised that I will burn out soon. Colleague of mine currently on placement there advised me the same then I asked a newly employed nurse on that ward who stated the same and confirmed it is a position for only 6 months as it is really demanding.
The interventional radiology job seems really interesting with regular hours 4 days-mon-to-fri- 10 hours shift no weeks ends- no BH. only the occasional on call.
I don't know much about interventional radiology and I am worried if i start my career there I won't be able to change fearing that no hospital will employ me for specialities similar to A&E, ITU and even to acute ward, since I spent my first 6 months post garduation in Interventional Radiology.
I am also worried if I start in admission Unit I will hate my job of being overwhelmed and under continues pressure plus missing the opportunity of exploring new area of nursing with regular hours that is it not easy to find in nursing career.
Any advice please?
