I was blessed to receive two nurse externship opportunities for this summer... however I cannot decide for the life of me which would be more beneficial. So which would you pick??
Externship #1:
-at a large "teaching" state hospital
-70% of the externship will be on a unit i have little interest in, 30% of it will be on a unit i'd like to work at
-ive had clinical at this hospital and have always wanted to work there
-no opportunity to complete ACLS/PALS
-i'll get educational credits for completing their program
#2 for sure! You get to work on a unit you are interested in, get two certifications that will make you more marketable later on if you decide to move, and you get paid more. Sounds like a winner to me!
I would say #2! It's a good way to experience what you are interested in, as well as seeing a new environment. You never know...you might really like the facility! Externships are a wonderful way to get your foot in the door at different facilities.
