Help/advice??

Hi,

A bit nervous about writing something but plucked up the courage to :) I have been suffering from mild anxiety and mild/severe depression for about a year now but now getting harder to control. I want to go to the doctors about it but worried that I will not be able to continue my nursing course? I have heard a lot of rumours that people get kicked off their course if they suffer from this so just a bit nervous about going.

This may seem a jumbled but hope someone can spread some light

Thank You x

1. go to the doctor

2. nobody will know if you don't tell them

There are plenty of people who suffer from anxiety and depression who make great nurses, don't feel like you're alone. The worst thing you can do is not get help, especially if you feel like it would be beneficial.

Your nursing school does not have access to your private medical records (no one should other than you and designated individuals). The school only knows what you tell them, so don't worry about the school, concentrate on what you feel like you need to do.

your school wont kick you out because you have anxiety-depression. in fact, they know nursing school causes anxiety-depression lol. get the appropriate health care attention. it will help you both inside and outside the classroom.

I just went to my doc yesterday because my anxiety is KILLING me!! I also have depression, which I take an antidepressant for. My doc told me that the stress of school is very real and nursing school can be a difficult adjustment. Don't feel embarrassed, many of your classmates may be having the same problems. Being on medication or getting other treatment for your depression and anxiety is a good thing, and they cannot kick you out of the program for having a medical problem. I would rather have a nurse that is controlling his or her depression than one that is suffering. Nurses and nursing students need to care for themselves also!! Don't wait, please call your doc today. I am so glad I did :)
