Health Sciences B.S. to MSN (Socal)

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi, I am currently a 3rd year at University of California Santa Cruz as a Health Sciences B.S. major (Essentially a Molecular, cell, & developmental biology degree with a medical spanish requirement and mandatory internship). I have great interest in a clinical MSN or MSNP. While most advanced masters programs in nursing require a BSN, there are some out there that are "entry level" or "direct entry" programs for MSN for non-nursing BS's. These require classes not needed for my major (stats, psychology, speech/comm, nutrition), but I plan on taking these before completing my BS at UCSC.

After introducing my circumstance, and my desire to be in southern California, am I greatly limiting myself if I were to only apply to these entry level programs (Western, Azusa, Cal State's, etc.)? Do these programs start frequently throughout the year and that is why a very low number of students are accepted? Do I look into physician assistant, nutrition, or therapy degrees? I am very concerned and would like any feedback/input. Thank you, Alden.
