Health Promotion Intervention Rationales

Published

I'm on week 7 of nursing school.  I have to write a paper that focuses on health care promotion and make a care plan that gives interventions for my goals, along with rationales.  I cannot, for the life of me, find articles that support my intervention ideas.

My patient has several concerning medical symptoms and an aversion to primary care doctors due to homophobic and sexist comments by past doctors.  She hasn't had a PCP in a very long time, and hasn't even had a physical in over 5 years.  So my diagnosis was going to be "readiness for enhanced health management".  My two goals are to have the patient make an appointment with a primary care provider (still need to figure out a time), and to have the patient express increased confidence about their skills to develop a trusting, therapeutic relationship with the doctor.

My intervention ideas were to help her identify sources to get a recommendation for a physician from, hoping to find research that shows that choosing a physician based on recommendations increases patient satisfaction.  I want to teach her how to improve her self-advocacy skills, finding an article that shows this helps improve confidence.  I want to role-play some situations with her to help reduce anxiety, and need proof that does help.  I want to encourage her to keep track of her bodily functions and concerns in the few weeks leading up to the appointment so she can make the most of it and I need proof that works.

But I'm coming up completely blank....on every front.  All I'm finding is a bunch of articles saying "yeah, LGBTQ people have trouble finding and keeping a primary care because health care can be homophobic" but no one is talking about what we can do about it.  I don't know how tangentially the articles can be related for my support - can proof that increased self-advocacy in cancer patients improve satisfaction count towards someone without cancer?  Also, needs to be within the past 5 years.

I'm just very lost and confused, and could use some guidance.  The first draft is due on Monday, and the paper overall is worth 10% of my grade.  Thanks!

tldr; how do you find appropriate articles to support your interventions so you are using evidence-based practices?
