I would like to get my own health insurance, as I may be taking time off between assignments and changing companies. I have looked up some policies on esurance, but it seems like most of them have high deductibles, as well as deductibles for prescription coverage. I want a plan with no deductible or under $500 that will allow me to find providers in any state as well as out of country coverage. I once had a $1500 deductible when I was in school and not eligible to be covered as a dependent. During that time I had an accident and ended up having to pay the entire $1500. I dont want to go through that again. I also need dental and vision and it looks like these arent included in any of the plans. I would like to keep my monthly premium under $200. Any suggestions?

I'm in the same boat as you, new to traveling and wanting my own insurance so I can take time off between assignments. I finally just settled on a high, $5000, deductable and $316 a month for my husband and I. Includes just one covered MD visit a year and Rx. It's basically just a catastrophe insurance, we are both quite healthy. If anything does happen at least I only have to pay $5000 instead of $100,000 plus.

It would be nice if someone could start a group insurance for Healthy Travel Nurses. Don't think many could or would travel if their health wasn't above average. I have noticed in my years of health care that our insurance rates seem to be higher than others. MANY years ago I had a policy through a full time job with BCBS and my parents had exactly the same policy with an Oil Jobbers group. They paid 100% of the premium and mine was subsidized by the hospital. I still paid more per year than they did. I asked at the hospital and they remarked that health care employees seemed to utilize their insurance more than non-providers, therefore the costs were greater. Maybe after the bailout we can all afford insurance??????
