head lice

I volunteered to research the head lice problem for our school nurse. We are interested in what other schools are doing to control head lice. We plan to revise our school policy in the near future. Do you have a school policy that is working? We have 1800 students in our district, with 1 Rn, 1 LPN and 2 part time health aides. We need to establish a system to track these students that works. Any ideas? How about suggestions for parent education and encouraging parental compliance. We would appreciate hearing how others are dealing with this chronic and time consuming problem. Thanks! smile.gif

While I think it is a good idea to check and see the sytems that have worked at other schools, I think it is very important to look at the scientific data and documentation on head lice. What worked in the past is not guarenteed to work any longer with the proliferation of drug resistent lice. Contact www.nasn.org for their head lice postion statments.
