Have first interview for SICU and need help for interview!!!

Published

Hi, I just finally landed my first interview for the SICU and I am super nervous! What questions should I expect they will ask me and what should I ask them? I also heard about that most nursing interviews consist of behavioral questions and I am nervous too about how should I answer them. Any help would be appreciated and I have the interview this Monday. I really want this job because I have been searching for months for a job and really want this opportunity!

Thanks!!

I was recently hired for a job in an ICU. They'll probably ask some hospital specific questions, so be able to tell them why specifically that hospital/unit is a good fit for you and what you can bring to the unit. Mention previous experience (as a nurse or student) and emphasize any special skills you have. I worked on a Tele unit for two years, so I emphasized my cardiac background and ACLS training. Research a bit about the hospital, if they have received recognition for being the first to practice a new procedure or have obtained awards on any special unit. You'll be asked about your strengths and weaknesses of course, where you see yourself in five years, and what you can contribute to their team. Have at least two "difficult patient," "difficult family," or "difficult co-worker" scenarios well reheorificed as well.

It helps to google generic questions and answers for RN interviews, and to practice with someone before hand. I felt silly doing so, but practice-interviewing with my non-medical boyfriend was actually a huge help, and most of the questions we reviewed were asked! Don't sound reheorificed, but mentally store some key words to use or phrases; "A part of the team," "Care of the community," and "Excellent Customer Service" were used for each interview at least once.

Relax, and have some notes prepared or questions to ask your interviewer. I went through three interviews before deciding on my most recent nursing job, and I liked to ask my interviewer what drew them to the facility/unit to help wrap up the interview with smalltalk.

Good luck, and all the best on your interview! :)
